2. Jason Verrett

At last, we have a cornerback who the Saints should turn their attention to this spring and it’s Jason Verrett, who’s currently with the 49ers. Verrett has only appeared in one game this season with the Niners after landing on IR in Week 1, which is unfortunate. In that game, however, he was great, earning a 67.5 PFF grade for his efforts.

The reason why Verrett would likely be a bargain signing for the Saints is that the guy has struggled to stay healthy during his seven-year NFL career. That might sound risky (“Why sign a guy who can’t stay on the field? Don’t the Saints have enough of those players?”) but when Verrett is healthy and good to go, he makes the most of his opportunities.

In 2020, Verrett started 13 games for the 49ers but otherwise, he’s had a tough time being available. I still think New Orleans should make an attempt to bring him in because they could use the help at cornerback.

Verrett wouldn’t be expected to start, as NOLA has Marshon Lattimore locked up on an extension, Bradley Roby for one more season, and rookie Paulson Adebo to lead the position. Verrett would be a nice depth piece and maybe not having him out there as much could help him stay healthy.

I wouldn’t give Verrett anything more than a one-year deal due to his long injury history but if he’s available to play, he’s a solid cornerback.
