New Orleans Saints fans anxiously waited to see if Odell Beckham Jr. was claimed on waivers by anyone but unsurprisingly, he was not. Now, wherever he ends up, the Browns will be responsible for the remaining $7-ish million on his contract.

Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo had the news of OBJ clearing waivers and, as Rapoport mentions in the tweet below, the former first-round pick is a free agent for the first time in his career. He’s previously spent time with the Giants and Browns but didn’t choose Cleveland as his second team. The Giants traded him there after the two couldn’t see eye-to-eye on multiple issues.

It was a similar situation with Cleveland, as they granted him his wish of being released last week. Now, here he is, ready to sign with a team of his choosing for the first time in his career.

Odell Beckham cleared waivers and Saints play the wait and see game

Josina Anderson reported shortly after OBJ cleared waivers that the wide receiver was planning on taking his time before signing somewhere. He’ll look at the best situation and consider all of his options before picking his next football destination.

Prior to being released, there was a rumor that OBJ wanted to play with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers but there’s been noise surrounding the Seahawks as well. The Saints probably don’t seem like an obvious contender due to their quarterback situation but Beckham could really thrive in New Orleans considering their lack of true wide receiver talents.

If OBJ wants to make sure he’s the star on offense, the Saints would be the perfect place for him. Sean Payton is a great coach, he grew up in Louisiana, attended LSU, and the offense has a massive need for his services. If Jameis Winston hadn’t gone down, the Saints surely would have been a much higher choice on OBJ’s list.

But, there’s still time to figure out where the former LSU product is going to land. The Saints have a huge need for him but so do several other teams.
