By now, you’ve heard the news that Michael Thomas won’t be suiting up for the New Orleans Saints this year after a setback with his rehab. He’ll miss the entirety of the 2021 season and it’s unfortunate and also very frustrating.

The Saints didn’t trade for a receiver at the deadline. Maybe they knew about Thomas’ situation before then and felt confident in their wide receiver room moving forward. Maybe they didn’t know and are now kicking themselves for not going after James Washington or even Odell Beckham Jr.

The only option for New Orleans now, assuming they want to add help at the position, is to turn to the less-than-stellar free-agent market.

If New Orleans wants to add a wide receiver in the hopes of giving their unit a boost, here are four names they could consider taking a flier on.

4. Alshon Jeffery

A former second-round pick by the Bears in the 2012 NFL Draft, Alshon Jeffery had two really solid seasons in the NFL where he went for over 1,100 yards and had at least seven touchdown receptions.

He hasn’t been that same player since the 2014 season but still was putting up quality stats just a few years ago in Philadelphia. The Saints wouldn’t be asking Jeffery to be an all-star, but simply making some big catches when needed, something that the other receivers haven’t really been able to do this season.

This signing wouldn’t have fans jumping for joy, but at least it’d be something.
