Saints: Michael Thomas is still “a couple weeks away” from returning
We’ve yet to see Michael Thomas catch a pass for the New Orleans Saints this season after he was placed on the PUP list this summer. While the star receiver is inching closer to returning, Ian Rapoport said on NFL Now that it’ll still be a few weeks for Thomas.
Rapoport said he was told that Thomas is still “a couple weeks away” from returning to the Saints’ lineup. You can watch the entire segment in the tweet below.
This obviously isn’t the news Saints fans were hoping for, as the BYE week seemed to come at the perfect time to where Thomas could return for the Monday night game next week in Seattle. That doesn’t seem like it’ll be happening now, unfortunately.
Michael Thomas won’t be back for Week 7.
The Saints’ wide receivers have not been good this year and that’s why Thomas’ return is highly anticipated. Marquez Callaway and Deonte Harris have done what they can but once Thomas returns, the offense should hopefully be better.
The last time we saw Thomas on the field for the Saints was in the playoff game where he was targeted four times but failed to haul in a single catch. The week prior was in the Wild Card round against the Bears where he caught five passes for 73 yards and found the end zone for the only time during the 2020 season.
This offense needs a true threat for Jameis Winston and Thomas is hopefully going to be the 2019 version of himself and not the guy we saw last year. Injuries have been an issue so that’s why the Saints shouldn’t rush their star wideout back into action.
While Thomas is getting closer to returning, it won’t be for a couple of weeks, unfortunately.
