This year’s rookie class is off to a sensational start. We already touched on first-rounder Payton Turner and third-rounder Paulson Adebo and up next is second-rounder out of Ohio State, Pete Werner.

This pick, much like the Turner pick was a redo of the Davenport selection three years ago, seemed like an attempt at a redo of the Zack Baun selection just a season ago. So far, it’s worked well for the Saints, as Werner has become the player NOLA was hoping they’d be getting with Baun.

It hasn’t worked when it comes to lighting a fire under Baun’s butt but hey — Getting a solid linebacker not afraid to make tackles is also a good deal.

Werner missed the first two games of his rookie campaign but made an immediate impact in his NFL debut in Week 3. He’s very much been the kind of sideline-to-sideline linebacker that NOLA was hoping to add alongside Demario Davis.

This past week, Werner led the team in tackles with 13 and his stock is through the roof as the Saints enter their Week 6 BYE. So far, so good for this rookie class.
