2. Adam Trautman

Up until this past week, Adam Trautman was a complete non-factor in the passing game. While his numbers still aren’t where they should be for a starting tight end, Trautman did catch two passes for 43 yards in the win over Washington. That’s more than he’s done in quite some time.

To this point, Trautman has six catches for 64 yards through five games and two starts with 43 of those yards coming this past week. It’s been a rough start for the Dayton product.

When the Saints spent a third-round pick on Trautman, the expectation was that he’d be their starting tight end this year and a go-to weapon for whoever was at quarterback. That has not been the case to this point, as Trautman has mostly been outplayed by Juwan Johnson, who has three touchdowns through five games.

Trautman showed he can make some sort of positive contribution this past week but he needs to start being a bigger presence in the passing game. The Saints need a tight end to step up and secure the starting job and Trautman has not done that yet. There’s still plenty of time for him to step up though.
