Saints: 5 Giants who can ruin Week 4
By Kristen Wong
3. Leonard Williams
Anytime Jameis Winston has to face a decent pass-rusher, we’re going to be scared, but New York Giants’ Leonard Williams makes us sweat a little more.
The seventh-year pro has 30 career sacks, 336 combined tackles, and 134 quarterback hits. After signing a three-year, $63 million extension with New York this offseason, the pressure is on Williams to perform, and Week 4 gives him a tasty treat in the form of Jameis Winston.
Williams’ career-best 11.5 sacks last year makes him the primary pass-rusher on the team, and by default, the most disruptive.
Williams started his 2021 campaign strong with a sack against the Atlanta Falcons, but as the scoreboard will show you, the Giants are still 0-3. Williams and the Giants’ defensive unit take partial blame for the losses, and come Week 4 against the Saints, Williams will need to play one of his best games ever. And he can.
The Saints are particularly efficient at scoring in the red zone: New Orleans has gotten into the red zone nine times and has scored a touchdown on eight of those tries.
If anyone can stop New Orleans in high-pressure situations, it’s Williams. He’ll look to hound Winston all game, trying to throw him off his already inconsistent form. With Terron Armstead out, too, New Orleans’ offensive line may be more vulnerable in Week 4.
Expect Williams to give the Saints’ offense a very hard time.
