Saints bold predictions vs. Panthers

3. Marcus Davenport adds 2 sacks to his resumé

There might not be a Saint with more to gain from a good season than former first-round pick Marcus Davenport, who the organization traded up to nab in the 2018 NFL Draft. It’s safe to say that up until now, Davenport hasn’t been very good and the bust label is well-deserved.

With that said, however, Davenport still has a chance to turn his career around and show this franchise that he’s the player they thought they were getting when they traded up to take him. He proved as much in the season opener, notching three tackles (two for loss) and one sack.

Davenport getting a sack in the first game of the season already puts him half a sack shy of all he was able to record in 2020, so he’s on track to put up a much more impressive stat line this year. His career-high in sacks was in 2019 when he had six through 13 starts.

Not only will Davenport get past his 1.5 sack total from a season ago, but he’ll inch closer to his career-high mark after getting two sacks on Darnold this week. The former first-rounder has previously had three games where he’s recorded two sacks, so it’s very possible for him to do so.
