3 Saints we wanted to see more from in blowout Week 1 win
2. Adam Trautman
There’s pressure on Adam Trautman to step up and play like the guy he was at Dayton. The Saints spent a third-round pick on Trautman because they were looking for a young tight end to take over once Jared Cook’s time with the organization came to an end.
So far, Trautman hasn’t been that guy, but let’s be fair here — Last year, he was buried on the depth chart behind Cook and Josh Hill. This year, he’s had just one game to showcase his talents, so there’s still plenty of time for the young tight end to step up.
With that said, however, it’s not unfair to say that we wanted to see more from Trautman. The Dayton product had just three catches for 18 yards and was clearly outshined by fellow tight end Juwan Johnson, who caught two of Jameis Winston’s five touchdown passes.
Johnson has chemistry with Winston and that much has been obvious over the past month. Trautman needs to establish that same kind of chemistry or he’s going to find himself as the second-string tight end in the coming weeks.
