2. Marcus Davenport

The Saints traded up to draft Marcus Davenport in the 2018 NFL Draft and to this point, it’s been a bad trade. Davenport hasn’t looked anything remotely close to a former first-round pick but surprisingly, his fifth-year option was picked up by New Orleans.

Davenport had a nice summer but that means nothing. Any player can have a good summer and then go on to disappoint tremendously in the regular season. Having a good training camp and preseason is hopefully only the beginning for Davenport because at this point, it’s not enough.

The Saints defense has a new look this year and Davenport needs to be the focal point of that defensive front. It’s even more important for him to step up with David Onyemata suspended for the first six games and the fact that NOLA essentially drafted Davenport’s replacement in the form of Payton Turner.

The drafting of Turner should light a fire under Davenport and get him to play like the guy the team thought they were getting when they traded up to select him in the first round three years ago. Davenport needs to put his first three years in the rearview mirror and start anew against the Packers.
