The New Orleans Saints made their decision as to who they wanted their starting quarterback to be and it’ll be Jameis Winston under center for the black and gold. While most Saints fans feel this was the right decision, not everyone expects Winston to thrive as a starter for the first time since 2019.

Matt Verderame of FanSided ranked all of the starting quarterbacks entering Week 1 and had Winston at No. 26. Here’s what Verderame had to say:

"Winston falls here because it’s impossible to know what’s coming. In 2019, he led the league with over 5,100 passing yards but famously launched 30 interceptions. He’s now under the tutelage of head coach Sean Payton, but without much in the way of receivers."

I mean… This is fair.

While Saints fans want to believe Winston can come in and fill Drew Brees’ shoes, we have no way of knowing if the former No. 1 overall pick has learned anything since he last started a game. He lost his job in Tampa Bay because he threw 30 interceptions and never got the Bucs to the playoffs.

With the Saints, Winston has another chance to make something of himself and revive his career. He’ll have a far more talented roster than he ever had in Tampa Bay and Sean Payton is one of the best head coaches to have for a quarterback on the mend.

Saints QB Jameis Winston isn’t getting respect ahead of the season.

Winston has a tough task to start the season, as the Saints not only have to face the Packers in their first game, but they have to play on the road despite being the home team. While it’s not going to be played in Green Bay, Packers fans travel well and will pack TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville.

If Winston is able to take advantage of the weapons he has in Alvin Kamara, Marquez Callaway, and Juwan Johnson and put up points against one of the best teams in the NFC, people will take notice. A good performance from Winston this weekend would definitely propel him on this list.
