Saints odds suggest they’re more likely to miss the postseason
By Justin Fried
The New Orleans Saints have been one of the NFL’s most successful teams over the last half-decade. This is a team that hasn’t finished with fewer than 11 wins since 2016.
They’ve won the NFC South in each of the last four seasons with one of the most complete rosters in the league. But could that be set to change this year?
Following an offseason of widespread change at the quarterback position among many other areas, many believe the Saints will take a step back in 2021.
And the latest betting odds suggest that.
Per WynnBet, the Saints have better odds to miss the postseason (-125) than they do to make it (-105). The difference is rather slim, but this is a notable development considering how good the organization has been in recent years.
Among teams with better odds to make the playoffs are the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans. You could probably argue that the Saints deserve to have better odds than at least one or two of those teams.
Saints odds suggest the team could break their consecutive playoff appearance streak
Much of the Saints’ postseason odds will be dependent on how Jameis Winston and the offense performs. Winston will be tasked with filling the massive void left by Drew Brees’ departure.
And he’ll have to do so with a weak crop of wide receivers while playing without Michael Thomas for the first portion of the season.
Fortunately, he still has one of the best offensive lines in football blocking for him with Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk bookending the unit.
It never hurts to have one of the most dynamic playmakers in the sport in Alvin Kamara by your side as well. The Saints still have plenty of talent despite their numerous offseason losses.
They may have lost Trey Hendrickson and Sheldon Rankins, but Cameron Jordan still captains a stout defensive line. Meanwhile, the likes of Demario Davis, Marshon Lattimore, and Marcus Williams will also help lead a talented defense.
There are reasons the Saints could make the playoffs once again in 2021. They’ll look to prove the oddsmakers wrong and secure their fifth straight postseason appearance this season.
