1. Kawaan Baker

Despite having a desperate need at wide receiver, the Saints waited until the seventh and final round of the draft to address the position and they did so with South Alabama’s Kawaan Baker.

It’s not great when a rookie draft pick finds his way off the 53-man roster and onto the practice squad but Baker didn’t shine this summer like the Saints had hoped he would. Even with that being the case, there’s a lot to like about the former South Alabama product.

Baker’s receiving numbers have never popped off the page but he did find the end zone eight times last year for the Jaguars. He finished the season with those eight touchdowns while also hauling in 51 receptions for 659 yards.

This, of course, came in a non-Power 5 conference but Baker still showed that he could catch the ball and gain yardage when the ball was in his hands, as he averaged 12.9 yards per reception. The Saints have more questions than answers at their wide receiver spot (though fans should feel better about the position after seeing what Marquez Callaway can do) so it’s not unfathomable to think Baker could get a shot this year.

Out of everyone on the practice squad, Baker is the most intriguing practice squad player and hopefully, he’ll get a chance to show why that is this year.
