New Orleans Saints: 3 offensive players who thrived in preseason
Offensive New Orleans Saints who thrived – No. 3: Juwan Johnson
Juwan Johnson entered this offseason as a wide receiver but the Saints made the decision roughly around OTAs to transition him to tight end instead. The move has seemingly paid off, as Johnson has been one of the biggest highlights on the Saints’ roster this summer.
While his game against the Jaguars wasn’t much to write home about (one catch for nine yards), he led the team in receiving yards in their preseason opener vs. Baltimore. Johnson had just two catches in that game but he made them count, going for 71 yards on the night.
It was clear that Johnson was one of Jameis Winston’s go-to targets and with the injuries to Adam Trautman and Nick Vannett, Johnson now has an opportunity to go from virtually unknown to starting tight end when Week 1 rolls around.
Not only did Johnson thrive with his play on the field, but he stands to gain the most from his elevated play. He might be a starter this year and that’s not something Saints fans expected to happen.
