Saints whose value tumbled – No. 1: Taysom Hill

Despite Sean Payton’s wishes, it took giving Taysom Hill a significant amount of playing time in the preseason win over Jacksonville for him to somewhat stay in the quarterback competition. He had double the amount of snaps that Jameis Winston had and still didn’t look like he belonged in the starting conversation.

Winston torched the Jaguars’ first-team defense, throwing two beautiful touchdown passes to Marquez Callaway and leaving little doubt that he’s the right guy for the job. Hill, on the other hand, had a rough series to end the first half and if Payton didn’t continue trotting him out deep into the third quarter, the competition would have been over.

As long as Payton is the head coach, Hill is going to be an option to start at quarterback. Even with that being the case, Hill definitely saw his value tumble after his performance against the Jaguars. He went from being in the running to start at quarterback to now likely starting the season as the backup.
