Saints whose value tumbled – No. 2: Adam Trautman (Tight Ends)

This could have been an entry dedicated to the entire tight end position but I decided to narrow it down to just Adam Trautman, as he had the most to lose this preseason.

While it’s not Trautman’s fault that he was injured, he hasn’t done much to separate himself from the other tight ends on the roster. The fact that Juwan Johnson has entered the conversation as the starting tight end when the season begins in a few weeks says something about Trautman.

Trautman was carted off during the game on Monday and while his injury doesn’t appear to be severe, Johnson has established himself as a legitimate option to be TE1 when the season kicks off. This wouldn’t even be something we’d be discussing if Trautman had impressed over the summer.

The tight end position is in a tough spot right now with Trautman’s injury and backup Nick Vannett likely missing 2-4 weeks. The Saints need help at the position and that shouldn’t have been the case with Trautman on the team.
