4 Saints who saw their stock rise after preseason game vs. Jaguars
Saints whose stock rose – No. 2: Marquez Callaway
While Marquez Callaway was definitely the talking point during this game (and deservedly so), you’ll see why he’s No. 2 when we get to No. 1.
Callaway was downright ferocious in this game and made sure the rest of the league took notice of what he could do. He’s definitely not a secret weapon anymore, grabbing five catches for 104 yards and finding the end zone twice.
The reason Callaway is No. 2 and not the top player on this list is that he was going to be a starting wide receiver no matter what. He really only has Tre’Quan Smith to battle with for the No. 1 wide receiver job and at this point, it looks like that’s tipping in Callaway’s favor, as it should.
The rest of the league knows who Callaway is now and now no one will be surprised when this guy puts on a similar show during the regular season. His stock definitely rose as a result of what he did on Monday but his role for this team didn’t change with the performance he put on because he was going to be a starter no matter what.
He still deserves a heap of praise for what he did to Jacksonville’s secondary though. Both touchdown catches would have been called as pass interference, proving that Callaway can make something happen even when nothing is there.
