Saints that fans hope prove them wrong – No. 1: Whoever plays quarterback

Maybe this list should have been six players since there are two players in question here but only one guy can win the starting quarterback job and it’s between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill.

Neither signal-caller has wowed during training camp and while Winston threw a touchdown pass during the preseason opener, he also threw an interception (as did Hill). There’s a reason Sean Payton hasn’t made a decision as to who will start yet and it’s because neither guy inspires much confidence.

Winston is the favorite but that’s mostly because he was a starter for Tampa Bay from 2015-2019. He threw way too many interceptions though and that’s why he found himself out of Tampa after five seasons and backing up Drew Brees in 2020.

Hill filled in for Brees last year when the future Hall of Fame quarterback went down with an injury and fared nicely. Be that as it may, Hill is a gadget player and that’s where he’s at his best.

If Winston wins the starting job, fans want to see that he can take care of the football. He’s great at hurling the ball downfield but he throws too many interceptions and that’s something he has to show he’s improved on.

If Hill wins the starting job, fans want him to prove that he can be the stereotypical quarterback. His passing numbers have never been great and he’s better when running with the ball, so he has to show that he can do both of those things when under center.
