New Orleans Saints trending up – No. 1: Tony Jones Jr.

The player who upped their stock the most in the loss to the Ravens was running back, Tony Jones Jr., who entered training camp as a dark horse to make the roster. Jones spent last year on the practice squad and did get a chance to make an impression late in the year.

In the preseason opener, however, Jones dominated and led the team in rushing yards with 82 off of seven carries while also finding the end zone for a touchdown. Jones was a force in both the run game and the receiving game, as he tallied five receptions for 38 yards, giving him a total of 120 scrimmage yards.

Alvin Kamara is the starting running back for the Saints and that’s not up for debate. Behind him, however, there is room for discussion, as Latavius Murray isn’t a lock to be the backup.

Murray didn’t impress in the first preseason game and while Jones hasn’t done enough consistently to be the backup just yet, if he continues to put on a clinic in the final two preseason games, he’ll have a legitimate shot at making the final 53-man roster.
