The New Orleans Saints take on the Baltimore Ravens in their first preseason game of the year and their first preseason game since 2019. There wasn’t a preseason last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while preseason is back this year, it’s down from four games to three with the addition of a 17th game.

With all of this said, the Saints enter their first preseason game with several positions up for grabs. That’s what we’ll outline in this article, so without further ado, let’s check out the position battles that Saints fans should be watching when the Saints go marching into Baltimore.

New Orleans Saints Position Battles to Watch – No. 3: Linebacker

Demario Davis is the only surefire starter that we know of at linebacker. The other two spots are up for grabs and as of now, Our Lads has Zack Baun and rookie Pete Werner as the other two starters alongside Davis.

While Baun and Werner could very well end up as the starters, the Saints have options. They re-signed Kwon Alexander recently and he looked good for them through seven games last year. He’s slowly working his back from an injury so he might not play much on Saturday but he’s definitely someone who could be a starter when the season begins.

Andrew Dowell has impressed in training camp and while it’s probably not enough to work his way into a starting role, Dowell could move up the depth chart with a good preseason showing.

Linebacker is a position battle to watch because there’s so much uncertainty at the position other than Davis.
