New Orleans Saints – Training Camp Takeaways

3. Tre’Quan Smith was back at practice

Something good that came from Wednesday’s practice was that wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith was back on the field. He was injured last week and we hadn’t heard much about him since he left that practice was an undisclosed injury.

Smith is going to be a huge piece of the offense this year and could find himself as the WR1 with Michael Thomas on the sidelines. Fans aren’t the most confident in Smith filling this role, as his best season saw him total 448 yards and he’s never had more than five touchdowns in a single season.

Let’s put that aside for the time being, though. With how thin the Saints are at receiver, losing any of them is a critical blow for them, so it’s good to have Smith back at camp and working out. John Hendrix noted that Smith was running during practice and noted that it was encouraging news, which is most definitely true.

It’s good to have Smith back and hopefully, the Saints play it safe and hold him out of the first preseason game. The most important thing here is to have him ready to go for Week 1 when the Packers come to town.
