After news broke that Michael Thomas “ghosted” the New Orleans Saints when he should have been having surgery, the wide receiver blasted the team on Twitter. It doesn’t look like a good situation and this could mean it’s time to trade Thomas.

Even when Thomas is healthy and ready to play again, will he really want to suit up for a team that he claims to have damaged his reputation? Will the Saints want a guy back who ghosted them on several occasions?

This is a bad situation for both sides and that’s why a trade really feels like a sure thing at this point. Neither side is happy with the other and with Thomas’ slew of injuries recently, the Saints aren’t getting out of him what they need.

The main reason to keep Thomas is that the Saints are incredibly thin at wide receiver. This was the case before Thomas’ news surfaced, but now with him out for the foreseeable future, the team has to rely on Tre’Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway, and other names who aren’t well-known by any means.

It might be time for the New Orleans Saints to trade Michael Thomas.

In 2019, Thomas totaled over 1,700 yards and found the end zone nine times en route to earning the Offensive Player of the Year award. Last season saw Thomas appear in just seven regular-season games and he didn’t score a touchdown for the first time in his career.

Maybe Saints fans shouldn’t have looked at it as just an injury-riddled season and realized that was the beginning of the end for Thomas in New Orleans. Of course, there’s a chance that Thomas returns midway through the season, and all is forgiven but it doesn’t appear that’ll be happening.

Another thing to keep in mind here is that Thomas hasn’t been healthy recently and that could make trading him much more difficult. He’s always been a trade candidate for this team, even when he was putting on a show back in 2019, but with the drama unfolding for the world to see, teams know the Saints won’t necessarily be expecting a king’s ransom for their receiver.

The Saints are entering a unique season and the less drama they have, the better. That’s why it’s time to seriously consider trading Michael Thomas.
