3 New Orleans Saints who stood out on Day 10 of camp
New Orleans Saints who stood out – No. 1: Marquez Callaway
One of the best signs throughout training camp has been that wide receiver Marquez Callaway has stepped up and looks like he can be the receiver the Saints need in 2021. This is important because, as fans are aware, Michael Thomas isn’t going to be available for a good chunk of the season and that leaves the Saints with a pretty thin group at receiver.
Callaway made his presence known at camp on Monday, hauling in a red-zone touchdown from Winston, beating Marshon Lattimore for the score. As Maddy Hudak notes in the tweet below, Callaway’s growth has been substanial and it’s even more impressive when you consider he’s entering just year two.
The Saints need a receiver to step up and fill the shoes of Thomas. Many felt it’d be Tre’Quan Smith but he’s been banged up throughout training camp plus he had a chance to show he could be a big-name receiver last year and failed to do so.
There’s a good chance that Callaway enters the season as the WR1 for the Saints and he’s showing why through these practices. Let’s hope this carries into the regular season.
It was good to see these three Saints flash during Monday’s practice, but what will the rest of the preseason activities hold for these players?
