3 New Orleans Saints who stood out on Day 10 of camp
New Orleans Saints who stood out – No. 2: Ian Book
Let’s just get this out of the way — Ian Book isn’t going to do much, if anything, this year for the Saints.
The fourth-round rookie quarterback out of Notre Dame probably won’t be anything more than a third-string quarterback this year, but the likely landing spot for him is probably on the practice squad.
Book leaped off the page in Monday’s practice, however, tossing two touchdowns in red-zone drills. He wasn’t perfect, throwing a pick during the session, but he has looked pretty good for the most part.
Does this mean that Book is going to compete for the starting quarterback spot? No, absolutely not. The only way that could potentially happen is both Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill were injured or forced to miss an extended period of time but even then, veteran Trevor Siemian would probably get the nod to start.
It’s good to see Book standing out and maybe this can help him compete for the starting job in the future. For now, however, it’s just competing for a spot on the roster for the fourth-round rookie.
