New Orleans Saints whose stock rose
Blake Gillikin
It’s not common that a punter steals the show at any time but that’s exactly what Blake Gillikin did during Thursday’s practice. He had all of the Saints’ media members in awe after his punting sessions on Thursday.
Katherine Terrell said “The guy is talented” while Nick Underhill declared him the frontrunner for the punting job, which we pretty much figured would be the case anyway.
We already knew this but Blake Gillikin can boom punts down the field. The guy is talented.

The punter battle is between Gillikin and Nolan Cooney but Gillikin definitely pulled even further ahead in the race. After parting ways with Thomas Morstead over the offseason, it was important for the Saints to find a punter who could make sure Saints fans didn’t miss the long-time Saint.
The Saints knew they had something special with Gillikin last year and that’s why they kept him on their roster. It’s paying off in a big way now, as he’s wowing everyone with his abilities and he’s definitely someone who can put the Saints defense in great positions this year by burying offenses deep in their own territory.
Rod Walker went as far as to say that “Blake Gillkin seems to have wrapped up the punting battle already.” and at this point, Saints fans have no reason to doubt that narrative.
Blake Gillikin seems to have wrapped up the punting battle already. Really strong leg. And as he reminded us on Monday, he led the nation in “punts inside the 20” his senior year at Penn State.

Here’s to having Gillikin as the punter of the Saints for the next decade.
