New Orleans Saints Trending Upward: 1. Jameis Winston

In the name of full transparency, we mostly included Jameis Winston to fuel the flames of New Orleans’ quarterback controversy. But Winston really is shaping up to be a solid QB out there.

After four days of camp, Winston and Hill have each gotten first-team rotations, and each have had their share of ups and downs. Winston misses a mid-field toss. Hill makes a gorgeous sideline back shoulder throw. Winston completes a touchdown pass under tight coverage. Hill comes up short.

We’re not even going to try to make predictions about who gets the starting quarterback job at this stage in the game. All we’re saying is, Winston has impressed early and continues to at least faintly glimmer over the other QBs in skill, consistency, and production.

Given Winston’s traditional signal-caller experience, some NFL analysts believe he’s best suited for the starting role. He has the arm and the work ethic, the confidence and the charisma to lead the Saints on and off the field, and more and more training camp reps should start to differentiate him from Hill.

His history of game-killing interceptions still cloud how reliable he’ll be come season time, but almost everything Winston’s shown in camp has been positive.

Hill has his moments, too. So far, though, Winston proves to be the quarterback of training camp whose stock is on the rise (for now).

And if playing the market isn’t your thing, then at least this Saints training camp should host some damn good football.
