Underrated Receivers for New Orleans Saints – No. 1: Marqise Lee

A former second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Marqise Lee has had a very up and down career. The Jaguars selected him out of USC in 2014 and it wasn’t until year three that Lee exploded onto the scene.

In that 2016 season, Lee hauled in 63 receptions for 851 yards and three touchdowns. The following year, he had 56 receptions for 702 yards and three touchdowns. After five years with the Jaguars, Lee spent the 2020 season with the Patriots but didn’t see the field. He was on the 49ers’ practice squad in May but only for a few days before being released.

Lee has battled injuries throughout his career and playing for the Jaguars certainly didn’t help him early on. He’d be a depth piece in New Orleans but he’d also have an opportunity to get back to that 2016 and 2017 form with this offense, as the competition surrounding him wouldn’t be intimidating whatsoever. He also has experience as a return specialist, which is worth noting with Deonte Harris’ recent arrest.

The Saints wouldn’t have to spend much money on Lee and he could thrive with Sean Payton and Co. If signing cheaper players is the route the Saints want to take, Marqise Lee is someone they should be zeroing in on.

These three receivers aren’t getting much buzz in free agency and could help the Saints out in their current predictament. New Orleans should give these guys’ agents a call.
