Underrated Receivers for New Orleans Saints – No. 2: Austin Carr

Here’s a name that Saints fans will recognize! Austin Carr played with the team from 2017-2020 after going undrafted out of Northwestern in 2017. The Patriots signed Carr as a UDFA and he did well in the preseason with them but was cut before the season began to which the Saints gladly scooped him up.

Carr has never been a star but he’s a familiar face to this organization and they could use a guy like that right now. His best season came in 2018 when Carr grabbed nine catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Both the yardage and touchdowns are career-highs for Carr.

I won’t beat around the bush here — Carr isn’t going to do much in this offense if signed and Saints fans know that. What he’d provide is a player familiar with the offense who could occasionally be put onto the field while contributing on special teams.

This wouldn’t be a signing that would make Saints fans jump for joy but if the Saints want to roll with the guys they have at receiver, then signing Austin Carr as a depth piece wouldn’t be a bad idea at all.
