The New Orleans Saints are underway with training camp but that isn’t stopping them from signing guys.

A familiar face came to visit the Saints on Thursday, as Tommylee Lewis paid a visit and now is joining the Saints for the time being. Nick Underhill tweeted the news on Friday afternoon.

Lewis’ signing is likely insurance for the Saints after Deonte Harris’ arrest surfaced on Thursday. Harris has been at training camp working with special teams but a suspension is probably going to come his way before the start of the season and when it does, the Saints want to make sure they’re ready.

Lewis went undrafted out of Northern Illinois but found a home with the Saints from 2016-2020. He mostly spent time on special teams as a punt and kick returner but non-Saints fans might remember him for being on the wrong side of the “no-call” in the NFC Championship Game a few years back.

The New Orleans Saints have signed Tommylee Lewis.

Lewis might not be on the Saints’ roster throughout the entire season but he’s insurance for the time being. The Saints know what they have in Lewis and he knows the team well, having spent the past five seasons in the organization.

Until we know the punishment handed down for Harris, it’s hard to really think too much about this signing. If nothing else, it’s nice to have Lewis back in the Big Easy again.

This move might not thread the needle much but Lewis is a familiar face and this isn’t a team that can turn away any kind of wide receiver talent at the moment.
