The New Orleans Saints are in a tough spot with the news of Michael Thomas’ injury sidelining him for the start of the regular season. They’re now in a situation where their best receiver option is Tre’Quan Smith, whose career-high in receiving yards is 448. This is not an ideal situation for the Saints.

The time is now for the Saints to make a big trade for a wide receiver and while Tim Patrick isn’t the biggest name out there, he’d be a great addition to the Saints’ offense. Patrick could step into the WR1 role in New Orleans and once Michael Thomas were to return, the Saints would have a solid No. 1 and No. 2 option on the field.

Patrick, a former UDFA out of Utah, thrived with the Denver Broncos in 2020. He’s been a nice story in the Mile High City and is entering his fourth NFL season, which could put the Broncos in a situation where they’d be willing to trade him. He’s also affordable, which is definitely a plus for the Saints.

The New Orleans Saints should target Tim Patrick in a trade.

Last season was impressive for Patrick, who stepped up when the Broncos saw injuries to their receivers. He finished his third season in the pros with 51 receptions for 742 yards and six touchdowns through 15 starts. Not bad for a former UDFA.

Patrick has proven that he can do damage as a starter and he’d be exactly what this Saints offense needs to thrive without Thomas. The Broncos also have plenty of receivers should they agree to part ways with the former Ute, as they drafted both Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler last year and also have rookie Seth Williams to give opportunities to.

This is a move that makes sense for both sides and Patrick would be fun to watch in this Saints’ offense. Even when Thomas returns, Patrick could still be a heavily leaned on option for whoever wins the starting quarterback job.

Saints fans would be excited if this trade were to go down and it’s not hard to see why. Tim Patrick is exactly what the New Orleans Saints’ offense needs right now. Figure out a trade and get it done, Saints.
