New Orleans Saints: 4 players who need to have a great training camp
New Orleans Saints who need a great camp – No. 2: Marcus Davenport
Marcus Davenport has provided nothing but surprises during his Saints tenure.
- It was surprising to see the Saints trade up to draft him in the first round in 2018.
- It’s surprising that he’s been as ineffective as he has been.
- The biggest surprise was the Saints picking up his fifth-year option despite the lack of production.
A fun surprise for Saints fans would be if Davenport could finally show something and putting on a clinic in training camp would be a great start. There’s not as big of a flame lit under him due to his fifth-year option being picked up but at the same time, the Saints could still part ways with him if he fails to live up to the lofty expectations placed on him.
While this isn’t Davenport’s final year of his contract, he needs to play as though it is. The Saints gave up a lot to trade up for a premier pass-rusher and Davenport has been anything but. There’s still time for him to turn things around though and training camp is a great time to show that he’s ready to be that premier pass-rusher.
