Linebackers for Saints to Consider – No. 2: Justin Houston

Justin Houston was in the news recently when Jason La Canfora tweeted that the outside linebacker plans to play this year but with the right team and at the right time. La Canfora mentioned that four teams have reached out to him but Houston is going to take his time and make the right decision.

Houston, a former third-round pick by the Chiefs in 2011, went on to play in Kansas City for eight years before getting released. He landed with the Colts on a two-year deal and proved that he could not only play at a high-level but also that he could remain healthy, something the Chiefs doubted from him during his eight years there.

Houston is coming off a solid year with the Colts, totaling eight sacks and a forced fumble in 2020. He is still playing really good football and he’d be a game-changer in the Saints’ defense. I mean — Can you imagine the kind of damage he and Davis would do together? I get giddy just thinking about it.

With La Canfora’s news about Houston receiving interest, it’s possible that he’s going to ring chase this year and that could take the Saints out of the running since they’re not really a Super Bowl contender without Drew Brees.

If Houston joined this Saints defense, however, he’d wreak a lot of havoc and be an immediate fan favorite with this group.
