All offseason long, New Orleans Saints fans have been itching for a reunion with linebacker Kwon Alexander. Fortunately, the two are meeting, at least according to Adam Schefter, who tweeted the news on Tuesday afternoon.

Alexander was traded to the Saints last season after spending the previous season with the 49ers. The linebacker played well for the Saints until he was injured in December, racking up 27 tackles through seven starts. He was the perfect complement to Demario Davis at the linebacker position and the team would love to have him back.

The issue with Alexander throughout his entire career has been his injury history. He’s played in all 16 regular-season games just once during the course of his career, so injuries have definitely hurt his stock over time.

For those worried about Alexander’s health as of now, Schefter tweeted that Alexander has been cleared from his injury and is ready to go. This is likely why New Orleans is bringing him in for a visit.

The New Orleans Saints could really use Kwon Alexander.

A reunion with Alexander would not only give the Saints someone who’s familiar with their defensive scheme, but it’d set them up in a better situation. As of now, they’re relying on second-year man Zack Baun to improve after a lackluster rookie season and rookie Pete Werner to step up next to Davis.

Alexander is a proven player whose injuries are the main setback with his career. Injury-prone players are risky to sign, of course, but Alexander was doing nice things for the Saints’ defense before his injury. Expecting him to pick right back up where he left off might be too lofty of expectations but it’d be a huge get this close to the season.

The Saints can’t let Alexander leave New Orleans. They need to do whatever it takes to keep him in the Big Easy for the 2021 season.

If this can happen, the Saints’ defense will be better. This will allow Baun and Werner to have a little less pressure on them entering the season and the run defense would be far better with Alexander on board.
