Saints: 4 remaining free agents with connections to New Orleans
By Kristen Wong
The New Orleans Saints deserve a pat on the back for getting things done this offseason. Except for figuring out that cornerback situation. Please look into that, Sean Payton. Soon.
But in everything else, they re-structured contracts to fit their salary cap, signed new players who add precious depth (Alex Armah and Nick Vannett, for two), and now have the option of going after free agents to round out their roster.
New Orleans’ salary restrictions saw many of their own free agents leave for new homes: among the losses were Emmanuel Sanders, Janoris Jenkins, and Sheldon Rankins. Hey, no bad blood, though. Truly wish them the best of luck (they’ll need it).
With the rest of the free-agent pool swimming around like starry-eyed moonfish, waiting to take some team’s fresh bait, the Saints could potentially be very choosy about their final additions.
Why not pick a few old friends?
Of course, just because a player has history with the Saints doesn’t mean the chemistry is there. And after losing their longtime quarterback, chemistry is something New Orleans need to figure out sooner than later.
But these four free agents who have connections to New Orleans also fill in some crucial roster gaps, and their previous tenures with the Saints does mean they know the system already.
Here are the free agents who could come back home to the Saints.
