New Orleans Saints: 4 position battles to watch in training camp
New Orleans Saints Position Battles to Watch – No. 1: Quarterback
Without a doubt, the position battle that will be capturing the attention of Saints fans and non-Saints fans is at the quarterback position. This has been the storyline New Orleans is getting tired of hearing about but it’s the most important position in the game so it makes perfect sense as to why this is the case.
On one side of the ring, there’s Jameis Winston, who many feel is the favorite to win the starting job. The reason for that is that he’s a former No. 1 overall pick and is the stereotypical quarterback. He’s got a big arm and isn’t afraid to let the pigskin fly, as evidenced by his 5,100+ yard performance in 2019 when he was the quarterback of the Buccaneers.
On the other side of the ring, we have Taysom Hill, who got the nod over Winston to start four games last year when Drew Brees was injured. Hill went 3-1 in those games and Saints fans saw that he could win games when asked to be the quarterback but the wins weren’t solely because of him.
Winston and Hill are the two players with the most pressure heading into training camp because it’s the difference between a starting job and a backup job. The Saints also have fourth-round rookie Ian Book and NFL backup Trevor Siemian on the roster who will be players to watch as well though neither are going to be a starter (well, hopefully not, at least).
There will be plenty to watch for in Saints training camp, but the quarterback position battle is going to be the most anticipated because of what’s at stake there.
