New Orleans Saints Position Battles to Watch – No. 2: Cornerback

This offseason dealt the Saints a bad blow, as they allowed Janoris Jenkins to leave in free agency and now don’t have a solid cornerback unit moving forward. Sure, they have Marshon Lattimore but his off-the-field issues paired with his decline in production hasn’t made him the same player he was early in his career.

Aside from Lattimore, the Saints have Patrick Robinson, rookie Paulson Adebo, and Keith Washington Jr. as options to start on the other side with Robinson being the favorite to win the job. Adebo could sneak his way into a starting job with an impressive camp and preseason and the Saints are high on him and what he can provide this year. Robinson could also be a cap casualty and no one would be surprised to see that happen.

The hope amongst the fans, however, is that the team signs a veteran cornerback who is the obvious choice to have in that CB2 role. Richard Sherman is a player who has consistently been linked to the team throughout free agency and the team hosted Dre Kirkpatrick last month, though no deal was agreed to.

The Saints need to have a good secondary heading into the 2021 season because of how good the weapons are in the division. It’ll be interesting to see how the cornerback position battle shakes up and who emerges as the favorite across from Lattimore.
