College Quarterbacks Saints Fans Should Watch – No. 3: Malik Willis

Despite playing at Liberty, Malik Willis is a name that Saints fans should know if they don’t already. Prior to his Liberty days, Willis played at Auburn but transferred and put Liberty football on the map in 2020 after throwing for 2,250 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Unlike the previous two quarterbacks on this list, Willis is a dangerous runner, totaling 944 yards and 14 touchdowns this past season. This makes him not only one of the scariest passing quarterbacks in college football but the added threat of him being able to take off with the football is tough to game plan for.

Willis might have had a good 2020 season but there’s still plenty for him to work on and considering he plays for a smaller school, the improvements will have to be major. His accuracy needs some work and there’s a solid chance that even if he does make these adjustments that he’s looked at as more of a running back than a quarterback.

The good news with that is that Lamar Jackson had that same “problem” and look how his career has gone so far. Keep an eye on Willis this fall, Saints fans.
