Free Agents that could help the Saints – No. 2: Steven Nelson

Without a doubt, the most prominent weak spot for the New Orleans Saints is the cornerback position. Besides star corner Marshon Lattimore and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the Saints cornerback room is below average. Even Gardner- Johnson has some questions surrounding him as he will be asked to do a lot more this year than just play the nickel.

Rookie Paulson Adebo will be a good corner for this team in the future; however, I have worries about him being thrown out there as an every-down corner. This is where signing Steven Nelson comes in, as Steven has quietly been one of the better No. 2 corners for the past couple of years. With his solid cover abilities, and flexibility Steven would fit right in with the Saints secondary.

By signing Nelson, he would be the clear No. 2 corner and, it would allow CGJ to continue his nickelback role. Doing so would allow Paulson to keep developing. Nelson is only 28, so he still has a good couple of years in the tank if the Saints decide to keep him around long-term.

With the need for a veteran cornerback, the Saints need to at least meet with Steven Nelson and they’d likely find that he’s a perfect fit for their team.
