New Orleans Saints RB3 Options – No. 1: Dwayne Washington

The most likely candidate to win the No. 3 running back job in New Orleans is Dwayne Washington, who has spent the last three years with the organization. He hasn’t done much during that time, however, rushing for just 229 yards through 40 games.

The thing about this list though is that the production isn’t the end all be all because it’s only the third-string job for the Saints. Washington has proven to be a dependable option in that role in the past and has actually yet to start a game during his time with the organization.

If Kamara were to miss an extended period of time, the Saints would probably feel pretty comfortable with Murray as their starter and Washington as their backup because Washington has proven himself as a nice depth piece to the organization.

While Washington isn’t as well-known as Montgomery is, he’s been with the team longer and has experience as a depth piece in the offense. He’s a good bet to sit behind Kamara and Murray on the depth chart when the regular season gets underway.

There’s still a chance that the Saints sign a running back in free agency prior to the season beginning but in all honesty, they have good options currently on their roster and should just roll with one of those players rather than putting money into a position that’s already set up well.
