New Orleans Saints Running Backs (5)

  • Alvin Kamara
  • Latavius Murray
  • Alex Armah
  • Ty Montgomery
  • Dewayne Washington

The Saints collection of running backs in 2021 is likely to resemble that of the previous season.

With Alvin Kamara firmly entrenched as the team’s featured running back and Latavius Murray set to reprise his role as Kamara’s primary backup, newly signed free agent fullback Alex Armah likely represents the lone change among the unit’s regulars.

Rounding out the group a year ago were Ty Washington and Dewayne Washington, and the duo would appear likely to resume their respective roles for the upcoming season.

Though second-year man Tony Jones Jr. spent the 2020 season on the Saints practice squad, with a single late-season call-up to his credit, the competition for a final running back spot could end up taking the form of UDFA Stevie Scott.

Scott, the hulking 6’2″, 235 pound former Indiana Hoosier failed to hear his name called in April’s draft despite finishing his three-year collegiate career with over 2,500 rushing yards and a whopping 32 touchdowns.

Even if a perceived lack of explosiveness could cause him to struggle in gaining separation at the next level, Scott is a powerful runner who is proficient in pass protection and could find himself in the roster discussion if only for use as a short-yardage specialist.
