New Orleans Saints fans have been thrilled to hear the news that Julio Jones might be on his way out of Atlanta and the NFC South. No one in the Big Easy really thought there was any chance of Jones landing with the Saints because they’re division rivals with the Falcons, but don’t be so sure.

Per Matt Lombardo of FanSided’s recent article on Jones, he spoke with an NFL executive who gave a quote that all Saints fans are going to want to hear:

"“Watch out for the Saints,” the executive says. “They’re in the same division, yes, but if they’re the Falcons’ best offer, you kind of have to consider it.”"

This would be huge for the Saints and many just disregarded any chance of Jones coming to New Orleans because why would the Falcons trade him to a division rival? As the executive says, however, if the Saints offer the best deal, Atlanta would be foolish not to take it.

The Saints aren’t out of the Julio Jones sweepstakes just because they’re in the same division as Atlanta.

Landing Jones would take the Saints’ offense to the next level, that’s for sure. This team does not have a No. 2 wide receiver on the roster as of now, most likely having to rely on Tre’Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway, and seventh-round rookie Kawaan Baker in their WR2/3/4 roles this year. That’s not ideal.

Jones puts that to rest though. He and Michael Thomas would make the most feared wide receiver duo in the league and this would absolutely give New Orleans enough weapons for either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill (whoever is starting at quarterback). The No. 2 wide receiver position wouldn’t be a need anymore and the Saints offense would become a much scarier unit.

Imagining Jones in an offense with Thomas and Alvin Kamara is a ton of fun to think about and while a lot of Saints fans figured there was no way this trade could happen, don’t be so sure about that.
