Saints QB Jameis Winston can torch the Atlanta Falcons in 2021.

It’s great that the Saints get to face the defense who allowed the most passing yards in 2020 twice this year and Winston is certainly looking forward to both meetings with the Falcons this year. The Saints don’t see Atlanta until Week 9 when the Falcons come to the Superdome and then they’ll travel to Atlanta for the season finale (Winston might not even be playing in that one if the Saints have a playoff spot locked up).

Saints fans loved watching Atlanta struggle defensively a season ago. I mentioned how they allowed the most yards in the NFL last year and it forced Matt Ryan and company to sling the football week after week. The Falcons allowed over 20 points in 13 of their games last season and blew multiple large leads including a 29-9 lead they held over the Cowboys in Week 2. Dallas won that game 40-39.

The Saints scored over 20 points in both meetings with the Falcons but neither game was the blowout many had been expecting, as the Falcons offense kept the team in it. Taysom Hill did a nice job exploiting the Falcons’ weaknesses on defense and Winston has plenty of experience facing Atlanta considering he used to be the starter in Tampa Bay.

For what it’s worth, Winston has been solid against the Falcons in his career. He’s thrown for 2,499 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in nine games. The hope is that he can protect the football and continue to make the Falcons’ defense look bad.

There’s hope that Jameis Winston can be the gunslinger he was in Tampa when he takes over at quarterback for the Saints this year. These three teams might not be all-around terrible defenses but their passing defenses left something to be desired a season ago and Winston could definitely put up big numbers when the Saints face these teams.
