Free Agents for New Orleans Saints – No. 2: Kwon Alexander

The Saints traded for Kwon Alexander last season and he was a good addition to their defense, racking up 27 tackles, four defended passes, one quarterback hit, and one forced fumble during his seven games in the Big Easy. Alexander’s production isn’t the problem, but rather his injury history. The guy can’t stay healthy.

Alexander will have to rehab from his Achilles injury enough for the Saints to feel comfortable signing him. He’s only 26 years old (and turns 27 in August) and the potential is absolutely there. Saints fans saw it this past season and know Alexander can be a difference-maker but the injuries are concerning so signing him to even just a one-year deal is risky for a team with cap problems.

The reason I’m listing Alexander here is that he is a good, young player and would likely be affordable because of the injury he’s coming off of. He also is familiar with the Saints having played in their defense for seven games last year and if there’s interest on both sides, he’d be a wonderful late offseason addition.

Just make sure he’s healthy and try not to expect too much from him.
