Saints rookie that’ll make an instant impact: Payton Turner

The New Orleans Saints drafted Houston Cougars defensive end, Payton Turner, with their No. 28 overall pick. While there was some speculation that the Saints were going to trade up, they clearly couldn’t find the value in any potential deal.

Taking a defensive end after losing Trey Hendrickson makes sense, and Turner could be a monster in the NFL. However, after playing just five games at Houston his final season, Turner is going to enter the NFL already with a history of injuries.

In those five games last season, Turner had 10.5 tackles for a loss and 5.0 sacks. He’s a beast when he is healthy, and hopefully that translates to the NFL, especially given his 6-foot-5, 270-pound frame.

With Cameron Jordan, Marcus Davenport, Carl Granderson, and Tanoh Kpassagnon all likely to be ahead of him, if the defensive end corps stays healthy, there may not be much room for Turner to make an instant impact.

He does still come in above the three Day 3 picks the Saints had though.
