Post-free agency Saints hot seat: Marcus Davenport

The last player on our list is Marcus Davenport, and they’ll need him to step up in a big way. As with Marshon Lattimore, Davenport will want to make his presence felt as his fifth-year option could be up for grabs.

Davenport, after being injured to start the 2020 season and then watching Trey Hendrickson explode and take his starting spot, will get the chance to be on the opposite side of Cam Jordan to begin games once again.

As with Peat, he’ll need to stay on the field to make sure it continues to be that way. Davenport has struggled with injuries in the past, and if it continues this season, that fifth-year likely won’t be picked up.

Davenport played in 11 games and has 1.5 sacks last season.

The season before, his second in the league, he played and started 13 games, recording a career-high 6 sacks. The team’s 2018 first-round pick doesn’t have to be amazing, but he needs to get back to that 2019 level.
