The Saints need Marcus Davenport to come back and play as he did in 2019 for the Saints’ defense to be dominant again. The team traded up in the draft to get the defensive end back in 2018, and now he needs to show them why that wasn’t a mistake.

The most improved player last year was undoubtedly defensive end Trey Hendrickson. I don’t even know if there was even really a conversation to be had otherwise. He came in for an injured Davenport early in the year and absolutely dominated the NFL.

In fact, he finished tied for the second-most sacks in the NFL (13.5). He was in company with players like Aaron Donald, Myles Garrett, and T.J. Watt. He also added the most tackles for a loss on the Saints. It truly was a dominant year for Hendrickson.

For the Saints defense to be truly dominant next season, defensive end Marcus Davenport is going to have to be the team’s Most Improved Player.

Davenport is coming off of a very low season in his career. With an injury starting the year and Trey Hendrickson’s success taking preeminence, Davenport kind of got thrown to the wayside and forgotten about most of last season.

Davenport started 13 games in 2019, and he started only one in 2020. Now, Davenport is healthy and Hendrickson signed a massive contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Davenport will most likely go back to starting the whole season as long as he does well.

When he does, he will put up big numbers. When he started 13 games, Davenport totaled three forced fumbles, 31 tackles, five tackles for a loss, 16 hits on the quarterback, and 6.0 sacks. He was a force getting pressure on the passer.

This season, Davenport will be back to normal and boast big stats. Look for Davenport to have his first double-digit sack season with double-digit tackles for a loss and hits on the quarterback. He will 100 percent prove his worth this season.
