Sammy Watkins

Another player the Saints should look into targeting is former Chiefs receiver Sammy Watkins. While Watkins will undoubtedly have other offers on the table, the Saints should still be considered an elite destination for free agents.

A former top-five pick, Watkins has spent the last three seasons with Kansas City. This past season, as Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill owned the Patrick Mahomes-led offense, was Watkins’ least productive.

Watkins notched just 421 yards. He had 37 receptions on 55 targets. With ten games played, Watkins just wasn’t overly productive on an offense full of top-tier weapons. In New Orleans, he’d get the targets he needs to shine.

A player like Watkins or Brown could come in and easily be the Saints’ No. 2 option. In a Jameis Winston-led offense, Watkins should join New Orleans for the impact he would have, not necessarily the contract they could afford him.

If he’s willing to take a cut for a big role on potentially one of the best offenses in the league, it’d then be a win-win deal as the 27-year-old is among the best free agents still on the board.
