Xavier Rhodes

In Pro Football Focus’s ranking of the top 250 free agents, Xavier Rhodes came in at No. 71. Still on the board, the Saints should at least look into what it would take to bring him in for a season after he had a stellar year with the Colts.

"“In his first season with the Colts, Rhodes bounced back to his best form and, if anything, had a career year. He allowed only 50% of passes thrown his way to be caught, down more than 30 percentage points from last season, and throwing into his coverage generated a 79.2 passer rating, down 50 points from last year,” PFF wrote."

The Saints had to part ways with Janoris Jenkins. He was their No. 2 cornerback alongside Marshon Lattimore. That said, the key that we’re looking at here is that Rhodes is like Jenkins in the fact that he’s no longer that young.

Rhodes had 2 interceptions, 42 tackles and 12 passes defended last season. That’s impressive, and now 30, he may not get the offer that a player coming off an elite season should. With the Saints still a prime destination, they could get lucky and bring him in for cheap.

It’s certainly wishful thinking, but it could make sense for both parties.
