The NFL cap number has been set and the Saints are still over that number. However, there is good news and that is that it is possible to get below it. The latest casualty to take place, as a result, is linebacker Emmanuel Sanders.

We pleaded with the team last year to sign a receiver that would help out Brees and Thomas. They went and did just that by signing Emmanuel Sanders, and it proved to be needful as Thomas missed most of 2020 with various injuries.

With the Saints forced to release Emmanuel Sanders to save money, these three players are going to need to step up next year and fill the void.

With the team still up to the cap limit, bringing Sanders back at his price point would almost do more harm than it would good to the team. Because of that, they decided to save the money and release the wide receiver earlier this week.

I don’t think that the Saints need to go out and draft a receiver or even sign another one in free agency. I do think, though, that these three current players are going to need to step up and play big this season to help with the transition.
