Terron Armstead

The New Orleans Saints are going to have to do something about their cap space, and with Russell Wilson’s massive contract, they’re going to have to make drastic moves which could include trading Terron Armstead.

Armstead is arguably the best left tackle in the NFL, and in a position that doesn’t get the credit it deserves from the casual fan, Armstead’s importance may not always be seen. He’s not scoring the touchdowns, but he sure is helping.

Pro Football Focus ranked Armstead the 17th best offensive or defensive lineman at the start of last season. The former third-round pick is now 29 though, and while that not too old, the injury-prone lineman may be looking for a massive contract.

Combine those two, and it may not make for a promising future in the Big Easy. Having signed a five-year, $65 million deal back in 2017, Armstead’s cap hit for 2021 is set to be $16.2 million. Erasing that off the book would be a start.

With experience at left tackle, Ryan Ramczyk could slide over while a draftee or signee could come in and start on the right side of the line.
